Schwindel's 4 Hits Not Enough in 6-4 Defeat

Chasers drop 3 of 4 in Iowa, return to Werner Park on Thursday

DES MOINES - Frank Schwindel enjoyed his first 4-hit game of the season, but the Chasers were sunk by 3 Iowa home runs in a 6-4 defeat on Tuesday afternoon at Principal Park.

DES MOINES - Frank Schwindel enjoyed his first 4-hit game of the season, but the Chasers were sunk by 3 Iowa home runs in a 6-4 defeat on Tuesday afternoon at Principal Park.

After Victor Caratini gave Iowa the lead in the 2nd with a solo home run, the Chasers scored twice in the top of the 3rd. Brayan Peña singled, Garin Cecchini doubled, and with 1 out, Pena scored on a wild pitch. Ruben Sosa then knocked in Cecchini with a sacrifice fly, giving Omaha a 2-1 lead.
Iowa responded with 3 in the bottom of the 3rd. Mark Zagunis homered, Jacob Hannemann singled, and Jeimer Candelario hit a long 2-run homer to put Iowa in front, 4-2.
Chasers starter Jon Dziedzic (L, 3-2) worked through 5 innings, allowing 4 runs, 5 hits, and 1 walk. He struck out 3.
Omaha cut the Cubs' lead to 4-3 with a run in the top of the 6th. Frank Schwindel doubled, went to 3rd on a groundout, and scored on a groundout by Brayan Pena.
Cubs starter Williams Pérez (W, 2-7) worked 5.2 frames. He was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits, with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.
Iowa scored twice in the bottom of the 6th against reliever Seth Maness . Chris Dominguez and Victor Caratini singled, and they advanced to 2nd and 3rd on a sacrifice bunt by Chesny Young. Taylor Davis singled in Dominguez, and Elliot Soto grounded out to score Caratini, making it 6-3 Cubs.
Eric Stout tossed a scoreless 7th inning for Omaha, and Al Albuquerque did the same in the 8th.
The Chasers plated a run in the top of the 9th on a Billy Burns triple and a passed ball, but couldn't mount a further rally against Fernando Rodriguez Jr. (S, 1). Their record dropped to 35-34 overall.
After an off-day tomorrow, the Chasers will return to Werner Park for a 4-game series against the Memphis Redbirds on Thursday. Omaha's starter is to be determined, while RHP John Gant (1-1, 2.13) will pitch for Memphis. First pitch will be at 7:05.
