Daytona snaps 10 game losing streak

JUPITER, FL - The Tortugas snapped their franchise-worst 10 game losing streak with a 7-4 win over the Palm Beach Cardinals Wednesday at Roger Dean Stadium. The seven runs were the most scored since July 6th.LHP Seth Varner made his 2017 debut and retired the first seven batters he faced.

JUPITER, FL - The Tortugas snapped their franchise-worst 10 game losing streak with a 7-4 win over the Palm Beach Cardinals Wednesday at Roger Dean Stadium. The seven runs were the most scored since July 6th.
LHP Seth Varner made his 2017 debut and retired the first seven batters he faced. He did, however, surrender two seperate leads in his four innings of three run ball, earning a no-decision. 
The Tortugas jumped on the board first with a Luis Gonzalez sacrifice-fly in the third innings, give Daytona their first lead since the fourth inning of Friday's game in St. Lucie.
Palm Beach would respond with two runs in the home half, on RBI singles from Lane Thomas and Blake Drake.
Daytona would follow by regaining the lead the next half inning with an Alfredo Rodriguez ground out after a TJ Friedl RBI single.
However, it was another fleeting lead with Andy Young tying it up on his fourth home run of the season in the next half inning.
Tied at three, the Tortugas would go out in front for good with a three run fifth inning. Brian O'Grady delivered the winning hit with a two run double to right field. He would later be plated on a Brantley Bell RBI single. The Tortugas would add their final run in the seventh with a Friedl sacrifice fly to center.
Tanner Rainey locked down the final four outs of the game for his eigth save of the year and first since June 25th.
Friedl went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Rodriguez added three hits and an RBI, Sweet reached base three times and O'Grady reached base all four times.
The Tortugas will now look to win their first series since June 4th in Dunedin. LHP Ty Boyles gets the start in the series finale Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM with coverage beginning on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB at 6:20 PM with The Metcare Pregame Show.
NOTES: Alfredo Rodriguez has an RBI in three straight games for the second time this season...Wednesday was Daytona's first win against Palm Beach on the road since June 29, 2015...Brantley Bell has hit safely in five straight games since a 1-for-26 drought...Brian O'Grady has multiple hits in back-to-back games for the first time since June 22-25, 2016
