Everett, WA: The Boise Hawks continue to have no problems scoring against the Everett AquaSox, but they cannot prevent the Frogs from playing comeback. Saturday's game ended by a final score of 8-5.
For the third straight game, Boise was able to score first and gain early momentum. Today, Sean Bouchard singled in Matt McLaughlin to take a quick 1-0 lead. However, Everett bounced back with three runs in the 2nd inning to take the lead.
That would be the story of the entire game as the Hawks kept putting runs on the Frogs, but they could not shut Everett down. Boise sent one of their most reliable starters to the mound. Ryan Luna came in with a 1-0 record with an ERA under 2.75. Luna had a tough night by allowing seven runs on 11 hits in 4.1 innings. This included three home runs by the AquaSox.
With the bats, the Hawks only faced two pitchers. Randy Bell started the game and only gave up one run in three innings. Then Michael Suarez came in relief of Bell and tossed the final six innings of the game. Suarez gave up four runs on seven hits and struck out 10 batters. He earned his fourth win of the season. Luna dropped to 1-1.
Bouchard had another stellar night for Boise after he went 2-4 in the game and drove in four runs. McLaughlin and Bret Boswell also had two hits each. Boswell hit his fifth home run of the season in the 8th inning to give Boise a jolt, but it wasn't enough.
Boise was already eliminated from first half playoff contention after the loss last night, but these games are still important in case there is a race towards the end of the season. The Hawks have now lost four straight games.
They will look to rebound tomorrow in an early game at 5:05 p.m. MT. Pearson McMahan will take the ball for the Hawks in hopes for his first professional win.
