JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After the Tennessee Smokies won, 2-0 in nine innings, in Game 1 of a doubleheader Sunday, Jumbo Shrimp left fielder Kyle Barrett had two hits and scored twice in a 3-1, seven-inning Game 2 win for a series victory to move into a tie for the second-half South Division lead in front of 3,675 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

In Game 1, Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Chris Mazza struck out a career-high eight batters while scattering four hits and four walks in seven scoreless innings, escaping bases-loaded situations in the second and seventh innings. Smokies right-hander Adbert Alzolay went six shutout innings, allowing five hits and one walk with five strikeouts, before right-hander James Pugliese (7-2) pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings that preceded the Smokies' go-ahead ninth inning.
Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Tyler Kinley (0-1) pitched a scoreless eighth inning, but in the ninth, second baseman David Bote hit a one-out double to left-center field, and shortstop Andrew Ely hit an RBI triple to right-center field. A two-out error by third baseman David Vidal allowed another run to score. Right-hander Craig Brooks saved the Smokies' 2-0 win.

In the series-deciding Game 2 of the doubleheader, Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Omar Bencomo (5-4) pitched five scoreless innings, allowing only one baserunner to reach scoring position for Tennessee (17-13 second half, 53-46 overall). He allowed two hits and one walk with three strikeouts and earned his first win since April 29 for Jacksonville (15-15, 45-55).

The Jumbo Shrimp took a first-inning lead against Smokies right-hander Zach Hedges (7-6). Center fielder Braxton Lee and Barrett hit consecutive singles to left field. Right fielder John Norwood's fly ball advanced Lee, and Vidal's groundout scored him. Two batters later, first baseman Taylor Ard singled home Barrett. In the fifth inning, Barrett hit his first Southern League triple to right field and scored on Norwood's RBI single. Right-hander Andy Beltre allowed pinch hitter Ian Rice's sixth-inning home run, but right-hander Severino González's scoreless seventh inning notched his third save.
UP NEXT: The Jumbo Shrimp open a series in Mississippi at 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Jumbo Shrimp return to Jacksonville to face the Birmingham Barons at 7:05 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4. Fans may visit any participating NAPA AutoCare Center to get a FREE general admission ticket for the game, which will be followed by NAPA AutoCare Family Fireworks. The Jumbo Shrimp will wear red "Bold City" jerseys on Red Shirt Friday, and fans who wear red can save $1 per ticket at the box office, or donate the $1 to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. Gates open at 6 p.m. for Miller Lite Happy Hour, presented in part by Wild Wing Café, with Miller Lite beer specials in the Craft Cave inside the third-base gate until 7:30 p.m. The Wheelhouse Chef's Table will include a buffet in the suite-level lounge open to all fans for $12 per plate.
