SALT LAKE CITY (July 24, 2017) - A power outage from the stadium lights and Bees bats sunk the Salt Lake Bees on Monday night as the fell to the Albuquerque Isotopes 8-4.

SALT LAKE CITY (July 24, 2017) - A power outage from the stadium lights and Bees bats sunk the Salt Lake Bees on Monday night as the fell to the Albuquerque Isotopes 8-4.

Luis Diaz (4-8) posted a quality start, but was tagged with the loss. Diaz pitched six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three. After posting 13 consecutive scoreless innings the Bees bullpen gave up five runs over the next two innings. Andrew Bailey, on Major League rehab from the Angels, gave up two runs in the seventh and Drew Gagnon gave up three runs in the eighth following the 30 minute power outage delay.
Carlos Pèrez, Ramón Flores and Dustin Ackley, the four, five and six hitters in the lineup, each had two-hit nights for the Bees offense. Infielder Nolan Fontana was forced out of the game due to injury in the second inning prompting catcher Tony Sanchez to play first base for only the third time in his professional career. Salt Lake's best chance for a comeback came in the seventh inning with the Bees trailing 5-1. Flores, Ackley and Sanchez loaded the bases with no outs to bring the potential tying run to the plate, but Albuquerque reliever Zac Rosscup came in and got out of the jam without allowing a run. With the loss the Bees and Isotopes split the four-game series and Salt Lake now leads the Pacific Southern Division by two games over Albuquerque.
The Bees hit the road for Tennessee starting a four-game series with the Memphis Redbirds on Tuesday, followed by four games at Nashville. Salt Lake returns home on Thursday, August 3 to begin an eight-game homestand.
