Richards Shines as Shrimp Blank M-Braves 3-0

PEARL, Miss. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (16-16, 46-56) defeated the Mississippi Braves (11-20, 45-56) by a 3-0 score in the second game of the five-game series at Trustmark Park on Wednesday night. 

Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Trevor Richards (3-2) earned the win with his seven scoreless innings, where he allowed just five hits, walked one batter, and struck out six. Mississippi left-handed starting pitcher Tyler Pike (0-5) took the loss, allowing two runs on just one hit with six walks and five strikeouts. Jacksonville right-handed reliever Tyler Kinley earned his third Jumbo Shrimp save by getting the final out in the ninth inning.
David Vidal started the scoring in the top of the second with a two-run homer to left that gave Jacksonville a 2-0 lead. Those were the only runs through the first seven innings of the game, and then in the top of the eighth catcher Rodrigo Vigil added an RBI single to put the score at 3-0, which would be the final.
Lefty reliever Tyler Kinley worked a scoreless eighth before Quijada got the first two outs in the ninth. Kinley then struck out Travis Demeritte to preserve the 3-0 win and even the series at a game apiece.
The Jumbo Shrimp and M-Braves will continue their series with the third game of the five-game set on Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET at Trustmark Park. Left-handed pitcher Dillon Peters (2-1, 2.25 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against Mississippi left-hander Max Fried (2-11, 6.44 ERA).
