Jumbo Shrimp blanked by M-Braves 4-0

PEARL, Miss. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (18-17, 48-57) fell to the Mississippi Braves (12-22, 46-58) by a 4-0 score in the fifth and final game of the five-game series at Trustmark Park on Saturday night.


PEARL, Miss. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (18-17, 48-57) fell to the Mississippi Braves (12-22, 46-58) by a 4-0 score in the fifth and final game of the five-game series at Trustmark Park on Saturday night.

Mississippi left-handed starting pitcher Kolby Allard (6-9) earned the win, pitching five and two-thirds scoreless innings where he allowed five hits with two walks plus four strikeouts. Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Chris Mazza (1-7) took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts. M-Braves right-handed relief pitcher Danny Reynolds worked the final three and a third innings in scoreless fashion only allowing a hit as he earned his third save of the year.
The M-Braves started the scoring in the bottom of the second, first with an RBI single by Connor Lien followed by a two-run single from Sal Giardina to lead 3-0. Mississippi tacked on another run an inning later in the bottom of the third when an RBI single by Emerson Landoni grew the lead to 4-0, which would be the final.
Esmerling De La Rosa and José Quijada combined to work the final three innings in scoreless fashion out of the Jumbo Shrimp bullpen. While Jacksonville did not score, the Jumbo Shrimp did have six hits, left six men on base, and were 0-for-4 at the plate with runners in scoring position.
The Jumbo Shrimp will continue their 10-game road trip by busing through the night to Biloxi, Mississippi, and tomorrow will start a five-game series against the Biloxi Shuckers at MGM Park at 6:05 p.m. ET.
