G60: Boise struggles again vs Volcanoes, lose 14-5

August 18, 2017

[Empty Body]

Keizer, OR: For the second straight day, the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes blew out the Boise Hawks. However, for Boise, this one stings a bit more than last night.
After the Volcanoes scored first in the bottom of the 1st inning, the Hawks responded well and had a spark of life in the 3rd with two runs on a Salem-Keizer passed ball and a Bret Boswell RBI single. For Boswell, he picked up RBI number 40 on the season. He is the first Hawks player to reach that mark this season.
They kept things scoreless in the 4th inning, but in the 5th, things fell apart. Ryan Luna came out for his 5th inning of work looking to get himself in a position to earn the win. Next thing the Hawks knew, the Volcanoes sent 13 hitters to the plate and they had scored eight runs. Luna was pulled a third of the way through the inning with two runners on.
Tyler Hanson came on and allowed a home run to Michael Sexton on the second pitch that he threw. It was Sexton's first home run of the season. In the inning, Boise experienced another day where their mistakes ended up benefiting the Volcanoes.
The Hawks began to fight back in the 6th inning and even at one point had the bases loaded, however the Volcanoes' pitching was able to get out of the inning again. Anytime in the game that Boise was able to gain momentum, Salem-Keizer had an answer. It was very similar to the feeling of Boise's ten game losing streak in July. Anytime the Hawks showed any signs of life, the opposing team struck back.
A bright spot for the Hawks game in the 8th inning where Danny Edgeworth knocked a two run double down the right field line. Boswell and Daniel Jipping scored to make the game 14-5. Edgeworth is now second on the team with 38 RBI, right behind Bret Boswell.
The Hawks will look to get back on the right track in tomorrow's game at 7:35 p.m. MT. With the win tonight, Salem-Keizer won the series. But the Hawks can set the tone for the rest of the road trip tomorrow with a win. They will turn to left hander Nick Kennedy in game three of 15 of their August road trip.
