Summary
Akron starter Matt Esparza worked six innings of one-run baseball, but a two-out infield single deflected off of Akron reliever Robbie Aviles gave Erie a 2-1 lead and the win Saturday night at UPMC Park.

 
Turning Point
Erie broke a tie game in the seventh when Harold Castro hit an infield single that deflected off the foot of Robbie Aviles, allowing Kody Eaves to score and give the SeaWolves a 2-1 lead.  
 
Winging It
Ducks starter Matt Esparza allowed only one hit in the first three innings before giving up a leadoff solo home run to Mike Gerber in the fourth to tie the game at one. Esparza got out of a one-out, bases loaded jam to end the inning, and allowed only one more base runner the rest of the game. Esparza finished with six innings, four hits, one earned run, two walks and five strikeouts. Aviles relieved Esparza and gave up a run in one inning of work with a strikeout. Leandro Linares followed with a one-hit, scoreless eighth inning. Erie starter Spencer Turnbull finished with 6.1 innings pitched, four hits, one earned run, two walks and seven strikeouts.
 
Duck Tales
Akron got on the board first in the third inning after a Todd Hankins groundout scored Dorssys Paulino from third to make it 1-0. Joe Sever and Yu Chang both got on base twice, each drawing a walk and Chang smacking a double.
 
Notebook
Esparza went at least six innings for the first time since July 19 against Binghamton… Joe Sever extended his hit streak to seven games… Erie reliever Mark Ecker got his 2nd save of the season in as many nights… Time of Game: 2:25… Attendance: 3,880.

The RubberDucks will face the SeaWolves for the fourth of a four-game series Sunday. First pitch is set for 1:35 p.m. Shao-Ching Chiang (0-2, 6.65) is expected to take the mound for Akron against Erie's Beau Burrows (6-3, 4.38).
