BILOXI, Mis. - The Biscuits (6-12) saw their three-game winning streak come to an end in a tough 5-4 loss to the Biloxi Shuckers (11-7) on Monday night at MGM Park.
J.D. Martin made his fourth start of the season for the Butter and Blue and fell behind early when former big leaguer Nick Franklin stroked a solo home run in the second and Clint Coulter an RBI-single in the same inning to put Biloxi in front, 2-0.
Shuckers starter Zack Brown kept the Biscuits off the board through the first four frames until Nathan Lukes stepped up in the fifth and socked his first home run of the season over the left-center field wall to cut the deficit in half.
An inning later, the Biscuits loaded the bases against Brown, before Quinton Torres-Costa served up a go-ahead two-run double on his first pitch to Montgomery first baseman Dalton Kelly to put the Biscuits ahead for the first time at 3-2.
In the seventh, Martin would allow a lead-off double to Blake Allemand before Jake Gatewood blasted a go-ahead two-run homer over the left-center field wall to grab the lead back for Biloxi at 4-3.
In the eighth, the Biscuits got some help from a Dylan Moore throwing error that put Kelly on first. Kelly would then tag to second on a deep flyout, and moved to third on a wild pitch before Lukes came through again, this time with an RBI-single to knot things up at four apiece.
In the bottom of the eighth, Gatewood would deliver the final blow, however, on a game-winning, two-out RBI-single to score Jake Hager from third to make it 5-4. Nate Griep would close things out for his league-leading sixth save in the ninth as the Biscuits fell for the first time since Thursday.
Montgomery will try to rebound and win the series on Tuesday when Eduar Lopez (1-1) deals against Adrian Houser (0-0) at 6:35 PM.
The Biscuits will return to Montgomery on Thursday to open up a five-game series with the Mobile BayBears at 6:35 PM when there will be a T-Shirt giveaway presented by Gipson's Tire Pros. There will be an adjusted start time from 6:35 PM to 12:05 PM for the Friday April 27th Biscuits game against the BayBears to accommodate the large crowds expected for the "Concert for Peace and Justice" taking place at the Riverwalk Amphitheatre later that evening. The weekend will also feature a traveling exhibit from the Negro League Baseball Museum on the concourses of Riverwalk Stadium.
