WOODBRIDGE, VA (May 17, 2018) - The Salem Red Sox will not play their doubleheader Thursday against the Potomac Nationals, as persistent rain made play impossible at Northwest Federal Credit Union Field at Pfitzner Stadium for the third consecutive day. The teams will make up the series with three doubleheaders to be played in Salem at dates and times to be determined in the first half of the season. It's the longest stretch of rainouts for the Sox since August 8-12 of 2014 against the P-Nats, with the games on August 8-10 rained out at Salem Memorial Ballpark before a fourth postponement at Pfitzner Stadium on August 12.
The Sox will open up a three-game series at home on Friday against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Righty Jake Thompson will make the start for Salem against Blue Rocks righty Gerson Garabito. First pitch from Haley Toyota Field is at 7:05 p.m., and the pregame show with Ben Gellman and Suzie Cool begins at 6:45 p.m. on the Red Sox broadcast network.
