Asheville Splits a Pair of One-Run Games to End the Season

WINSTON-SALEM- The Asheville Tourists finished the 2021 season on Sunday afternoon with a 4-3 victory over the Winston-Salem Dash. Less than 24 hours prior, the Dash held off a furious comeback attempt by the Tourists for a 10-9 final score. Asheville won the series four games to two for their third straight road series win.
In Sunday’s victory, the Tourists received Home Runs from Luis Guerrero and Luis Santana. Guerrero’s two-run shot in the fourth inning gave the Tourists a 2-1 lead at the time. Santana’s solo shot in the eighth proved to be the game-winner. JC Correa added an RBI double in the seventh frame. Carlos Hurtado finished the game with three hits, including a double.
The pitching combination of Misael Tamarez, Danny Cody, Ray Gaither, and Derek West limited the Dash to only five hits in the contest. Gaither earned the win in relief while West notched his first save of the season.
Saturday’s 10-9 loss featured an 11-run fourth inning between the two teams. Winston-Salem took a 2-0 lead in the game before Asheville rallied for six runs in the top of the fourth. The Dash countered with five runs of their own in the bottom half. Each team scored three runs late. The Tourists received multiple hits from five different players, including Shay Whitcomb who belted his 16th Home Run of the season.
