Kruger picks up three hits in loss

(Burlington, IA) - The Burlington Bees (31-39) lost the second half opener by the score of 11-2 to the Peoria Chiefs (31-39) on Thursday night at Community Field. 

(Burlington, IA) - The Burlington Bees (31-39) lost the second half opener by the score of 11-2 to the Peoria Chiefs (31-39) on Thursday night at Community Field. 

Peoria batted 11 times in the first inning. Shane Billings opened the game with a solo home run to left, his first of the year, giving the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. After a Stefan Trosclair double, Matt Fielder launched a home run to left, extending the lead to 3-0. With the bases loaded, with one out, Dylan Carlson doubled to left, scoring two runs, making it a 5-0 lead for Peoria. The Chiefs picked up two more runs on a Jose Martinez single and a Bees' error, making it a seven-run inning. 
Matt Fielder continued his big day by leading off the second inning with a double. With two outs, Juan Yepez sent a single to left, scoring Fielder, extending the lead to 8-0. Peoria added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run homer from Ryan McCarvel and a solo home run from Danny Hudzina. 
The Bees got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jack Kruger started the inning with a double and moved to third on a Roberto Baldoquin groundout. Brennan Morgan then grounded out, scoring Morgan, cutting Peoria's lead to 11-1. Jack Kruger drove in the Bees' second run of the game with a solo shot to left in the seventh inning.
Peoria starting pitcher Austin Sexton (3-1) earned the win while Jose Suarez (0-1) was charged with the loss. The Bees and the Chiefs continue the series on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at Community Field. Joe Gatto makes the start for the Bees against Juan Perez for Peoria. NOTES: Jack Kruger went 3-for-5 finishing a triple shy of the cycle. Jahmai Jones extended his hitting streak to six games while Kruger extended his streak to nine games.
