SPOKANE, WA – A four-run seventh and zeroes from a quartet of relievers were the difference in a 6-2 win for the Canadians over the Spokane Indians [Rockies] Wednesday night at Avista Stadium. It was the first time the C’s beat Spokane in seven games this year.

Tied 2-2 after six, Vancouver began their big inning with a lead-off walk from Jace Bohrofen. Nick Goodwin followed with a single and Jackson Hornung walked to load the bases. After a strikeout, Dylan Rock came to the plate. The Sugar Land, TX native fell behind 0-2, fouled off a pitch then pulled a double into the left field corner to make it 4-2. Glenn Santiago followed with a two-RBI single to put the Canadians in front 6-2.

On the mound, Greyson Thurman (W, 2-0), Rafael Ohashi, Carson Pierce and Justin Kelly combined on 4.1 scoreless innings of relief that featured one hit, one walk and eight strikeouts to keep Spokane at bay.

The C’s started the scoring in the top of the first. Dasan Brown led off with a bunt single, Ryan McCarty laced a base hit to center, Hornung worked a two-out free pass then Jeff Wehler singled home Brown to give Vancouver an early 1-0 lead. Spokane immediately responded with consecutive doubles from the first two batters in the home half to even the score, but starter Geison Urbaez limited the damage and escaped the inning with no further runs on the board.

Vancouver retook the lead in the fifth when Bohrofen – the #22 Blue Jays prospect – slugged the first homer of his High-A career, but the Indians again responded with the tying tally in the bottom of the stanza after a single, a walk and a two-out RBI knock from #7 Rockies prospect Dyan Jorge.

All nine starters reached base and eight had a hit. Goodwin logged his first three-hit game of the season, Wehler and Santiago had two hits apiece and Hornung matched a single-game team high with three walks.

With the win, the Canadians are two games back of first place in the Northwest League first half standings. They’ll look to make it two in a row tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. when Ryan Jennings toes the slab opposite Spokane southpaw Mason Green.
