Bridgewater, New Jersey – The New York Yankees have transferred the rehab assignment of C Ben Rortvedt from the Single-A Tampa Tarpons to the Double-A Somerset Patriots. Rortvedt is expected to join the Patriots on Saturday for the team’s road series against the Harrisburg Senators (Washington Nationals).

The Yankees acquired Rortvedt, along with 3B Josh Donaldson and UTL Isiah Kiner-Falefa, in a trade with the Minnesota Twins in exchange for C Gary Sanchez and 3B Gio Urshela on March 13, 2022.

Rortvedt has yet to make his Yankees debut after injuries have sidelined him since the trade. Most recently, the Yankees placed him on the injured list on March 27, 2023 for recovery following surgery for a left shoulder aneurysm.

Originally drafted by the Twins in the second round (56th overall) in the 2016 MLB Draft, Rortvedt made his MLB debut on April 30, 2021. In his debut, Rortvedt went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. He would go on to play 39 games that season and finished with a .169 average, 15 hits, a double, three home runs and seven RBI.

In 2022, Rortvedt combined to hit .218 (37-for-170) with 25 runs, nine doubles, seven home runs and 21 RBI for Single-A Tampa, High-A Hudson Valley, and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Rortvedt becomes the third MLB rehab assignment with Somerset this season, joining Donaldson (4/18) and OF Harrison Bader (4/21-23). He also becomes the 22nd Yankees player to rehab as a member of the Patriots since becoming New York’s Double-A affiliate in 2021.
