Beloit, WI (April 28, 2018) - The Clinton LumberKings stormed back from a five-run deficit on Saturday afternoon at Harry Pohlman Field to drop the Beloit Snappers 8-6. The comeback effort was the largest of the season for Clinton (13-6) who made up the deficit with a five-run top of the seventh inning.
The LumberKings spotted the Snappers (9-8) an early four-run lead in the bottom of the first inning. Clinton starter Oliver Jaskie, had all nine Snappers come up to face him in the inning but was let down by his defense. Eugene Helder committed a fielding error to open the flood gates for Beloit who tallied three unearned runs in the inning to break LumberKings streak of 18 games without allowing an unearned run.
In the top of the second inning, the LumberKings answered the Snappers rally with a run against Beloit starter Xavier Altamirano. Three straight hits by Clinton pulled them to with three runs before the Snappers grabbed their largest lead of the night with a two-run rally in the bottom of the third.
Jaskie lasted just 2.2 innings for Clinton, his shortest start of the season, and was relieved by Austin Hutchison with two out in the third.
Hutchison settled the game down for Clinton, throwing 3.1 scoreless innings and holding Beloit to just one hit while walking one and striking out three.
In the top of the seventh inning, the LumberKings offense exploded against Snappers reliever Joshua Reagan. Nine batters came up in the inning for Clinton, with the first four men reaching. Greifer Andrade smashed his first home run of the season to bring home the LumberKings fourth runs of the inning and pull to within one. Three batters later Billy Cooke worked a two out walk against Reagan forcing him from the game.
Beloit called on Jesus Zambrano to hold the one run lead but on his fifth pitch to Ariel Sandoval surrendered the lead by allowing an RBI double to left center field.
Zambrano (2-1) stayed on for the Snappers to work the eighth when the LumberKings completed their come from behind effort with a two-run rally. A leadoff walk by Johnny Adams, his second of the game, and a Ryan Costello RBI double gave Clinton their first lead of the game. Andrade then added insurance for the LumberKings with an RBI double to right center field.
Andrade ended the afternoon going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and three RBI.
Chris Castellanos worked two perfect innings out of the LumberKings bullpen following Hutchison and picked up his first win of the season.
David Gerber sealed the come from behind win with his first safe of the year, working around a leadoff single to Nick Allen to preserve the 8-6 win.
