Early Offense Not Enough for Bees

(Clinton, IA) - The Burlington Bees (12-25) were denied back-to-back wins, losing game two of a four-game series to the Clinton LumberKings (15-22), 9-3, on Friday night at Ashford University Field. 

(Clinton, IA) - The Burlington Bees (12-25) were denied back-to-back wins, losing game two of a four-game series to the Clinton LumberKings (15-22), 9-3, on Friday night at Ashford University Field. 


The Bees once again opened the scoring with a big first inning. Jahmai Jones reached second on a two-base error to start the game. Jordan Zimmerman then reached on a single and an error, scoring Jones, giving the Bees a 1-0 lead. Jack Kruger added to the Bees' lead, driving in Zimmerman with a single. Brennan Morgan made it a three-run inning, sending a double to left, scoring Kruger, pushing the Bees' lead to 3-0.
The lead wouldn't last long as Clinton batted eight times in their first half of the first inning. Clinton loaded the bases with three walks and got on the board thanks to an infield single by Anthony Jimenez. Clinton made it a one-run game with a groundout from Nick Thurman. The LumberKings then took the lead thanks to a two-run double by Dimas Ojeda, putting the LumberKings in front, 4-3. Clinton went on to score four more runs in the second inning and added another in the fifth, beating the Bees 9-3.
Brandon Miller (2-3) earned the win for Clinton while Sam Pastrone (1-4) was charged with the loss. The Bees and the LumberKings continue the series on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. When Travis Herrin makes the start for the Bees against Tim Viehoff for the LumberKings.
