Former Met Ed Hearn to Make Guest Appearance
Hearn will give a testimonial to members in attendance prior to the Mets game and also sign autographs.
He also will be a special guest speaker after Saturday's game in the Ulti-Met Grill area.
Hearn was a backup catcher and member of the 1986 New York Mets World Series Championship team.
Hearn played for the Mets in 1986 and Kansas City Royals from 1987-1988. He was a career .263 hitter with four home runs and 14 RBIs.
Hearn's playing career was cut short after a shoulder injury. Less than six months after his baseball career ended, he was diagnosed with three potentially life threatening health conditions. He had three life-saving kidney transplants, dialysis, cancer, and the aid of a breathing machine.
After enduring challenging health issues, Hearn used his past experiences to share his story as a motivational speaker. He was awarded the prestigious Certified Speaking Profession (CSP) designation from the National Speakers Association in 2001.
He is the founder of The Bottom of the Ninth, a nonprofit corporation dedicated to the mission of rebuilding the spirit and character of this nation. Hearn's autobiography is called Conquering Life's Curves - Baseball, Battles & Beyond,
Hearn resides in Shawnee, Kansas with his wife Trish and their sixteen-year-old son, Cody.
