Erie's Jung doubles up on dingers in two straight

It's safe to say Jace Jung is in the zone.

MLB's No. 68 overall prospect launched two homers for the second straight game for Double-A Erie during Wednesday's 5-4 loss in 10 innings to Somerset at TD Bank Ballpark.

Jung plated three runs a night after setting a career high with five RBIs. He's racked up all five of his pro multihomer games this season -- three with the SeaWolves and two for High-A West Michigan.

On Wednesday, the fourth-ranked Tigers prospect took the first pitch he saw from Yankees righty Alex Mauricio over the right-field fence to tie the game, 2-2, in the ninth inning.

And his second dinger of the game was strikingly similar, albeit with a man already aboard. Off another righty, No. 29 Yankees prospect Danny Watson, Jung teed off on the first pitch of the at-bat and sent it over the wall in center to temporarily give Erie the lead.

Over the course of the two games in which the 2022 12th overall Draft pick went 5-for-9, all four off his homers came against right-handers. Jung has 26 long balls this season across two levels, and he's launched 12 in 38 games in the Eastern League.

The Minors' level often considered the most difficult one for players to become acclimated to hasn't given MLB's No. 2 second-base prospect too much difficullty. In fact, Jung has gotten better since he moved up with a slash line of .301/.389/.596 with 33 RBIs and 25 runs in 38 games. After returning to the Midwest League to start the season, he slashed .254/.377/.465 with 46 runs and 43 RBIs in 81 games for the Whitecaps.
