Clinton, IA (April 22, 2018) - Dimas Ojeda homered and Clinton LumberKings pitching combined to retire the first 15 batters to coast to a 5-1 win over the Beloit Snappers on Sunday afternoon at Ashford University Field. The win is the LumberKings (10-3) sixth straight and concludes a home stand that did not include a loss.
Dimas Ojeda started the scoring for Clinton in the bottom of the first inning. On just the third pitch of the game, by Snappers (5-6) starter, Wyatt Marks, Ojeda lined a ball into the Lumber Lounge in right for his second home run of the season.
Marks (2-1) was tagged with the loss for Beloit. Over his four innings of work he allowed three runs, on four hits, while striking out five, and issuing his first three walks of the season.
Clinton starter Ray Kerr returned to the starting rotation after missing a start due to a blister and was perfect in his four-innings of work. The lefty did not qualify for the win but worked four shutout innings while striking out four and did not allow a Snapper to reach base.
David Gerber followed Kerr out of the bullpen and extended the stretch of perfect work with a 1-2-3 top of the fifth. In the top of the sixth inning, Trace Loehr got Beloit into the hit column with a single up the middle to lead-off the inning.
Gerber (2-1) earned the win for Clinton with a two inning outing in which he allowed no runs, on one hit, while walking none, and striking out two.
The Clinton offense pulled away from Beloit with two runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Greifer Andrade chased home a pair of runs with a single to center in the bottom of the fourth. Extending his hitting streak to nine games.
In the bottom of the sixth, Ryan Scott collected his first RBI of the season with a two-run single that put Clinton on top 5-0.
Beloit scored their only run of the game in the top of the ninth inning. Chris Castellanos allowed back-to-back singles to open the inning and then balked home a run before retiring the final two batters to preserve the LumberKings sixth straight win.
The LumberKings will now hit the road for a seven-game trip starting with the first of four games with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Monday night. Clinton will give the ball to left-hander Oliver Jaskie (0-0, 1.08) while the Timber Rattlers will tap righty Alec Bettinger (0-1, 8.22). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
