The Hooks were one shy of matching their highest hit output of the year as they strung together 16 knocks, including three homers and six doubles. Corona, Gilbert, and Joey Loperfido each had three hits, with Zach Daniels, Luis Aviles Jr. and Garrett Wolforth all going 2-for-5.
CC scored five times in the second on a pair of home runs. Aviles blasted a 1-1 pitch over the berm in left for a 2-0 edge. The three-run salvo by Gilbert was his 12th round-tripper of the season.
Corona opened a three-run fourth with his 17th homer of 2023. Following singles by Gilbert and Loperfido, Daniels doubled down the third base line to plate a pair.
Rhett Kouba fired five innings of two-hit, one run ball en route to his seventh win. Kouba, who struck out six without issuing a walk, boasts a 1.91 ERA in his last six starts.
Derek West contributed two scoreless innings with Logan VanWey and Ray Gaither blanking SA in the eighth and ninth.
Hooks hurlers have held the Missions to three runs on eight hits over the last two games.
