SOARING THROUGH SPRING
COBY MAYO continued his hot spring last week, going 5-for-11 at the plate with a run, two doubles, two RBI and two walks through six games. He highlighted Week 3 of Spring Training with a 4-for-4 day at the plate on March 16 vs. Boston that included his MLB-leading seventh double. Thus far, Mayo is slashing .366/.458/.610/1.068 through 19 games, tying him second with Mookie Betts in on-base percentage among all MLB hitters and leading the Grapefruit League in batting average.
JACKSON HOLLIDAY stayed hot at the plate last week, going 4-for-12 with a run, a double, a walk and a stolen base. He is one of nine players in Major League baseball to have two triples this spring and is tied for the Grapefruit League lead alongside Minnesota’s Byron Buxton and Houston’s Quincy Hamilton.
KYLE STOWERS smashed the ball all week, leading all Spring Training hitters with four home runs in Week 3. His three-run home run in the top of the seventh on March 14 at Pittsburgh broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the Orioles to a 5-2 win. Yesterday, Stowers launched three home runs, two of which came off starter Kenta Maeda, while driving in four runners. He now leads all hitters in Spring Training with seven long balls.
WHO’s HOT
TYLER WELLS worked his longest start of the spring on March 17 vs. Atlanta, allowing one earned run on four hits in 4.2 innings while striking out six batters en route to an 8-2 win. In three Spring Training starts, he has a 2-0 record with a 1.69 ERA (2 ER, 10.2 IP), 0.75 WHIP and a .189 batting average against with seven strikeouts.
CONNOR NORBY notched a 3-for-11 week through five games with a run, a double, an RBI and a walk. With runners on base, he is 3-for-8 with an RBI and a walk this spring.
DANIEL JOHNSON continued his strong start to spring, going 2-for-6 in four games with his second home run of Spring Training on March 12 vs. Tampa Bay in his lone at bat. He has played outfield position, committing just one error through 67.0 innings.
DYLAN BEAVERS notched a walk-off RBI single on March 16 vs. Boston off Gabriel Jackson that scored Jud Fabian for the win.
MIKE BAUMANN, KEEGAN AKIN, BRYAN BAKER and NICK VESPI all tossed at least 2.0 scoreless innings last week, helping Baltimore reach a Major League leading 18-5-2 record thus far.
KOLTEN WONG finished last week going 3-for-11 at the plate, collecting a double and a triple with two RBI, a walk and a stolen base. This spring, he is 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI with runners in scoring position.
ERROL ROBINSON kept pace with his strong spring last week, going 1-for-3 while scoring two runs and working two walks. His .583 on-base percentage through 17 games this spring ranks seventh among all MLB hitters and leads all Baltimore batters (min. 10 plate appearances).
