Lucas Erceg delivered a two-run single in the sixth inning to hand the Biloxi Shuckers (64-47, 23-18) a 3-0 victory over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (43-66, 15-26) on Friday night at MGM Park.
RHP Trey Supak (W, 3-6) twirled six quality innings and did not allow a run to earn his third win in four starts with the Shuckers. The righty allowed just four hits while striking out four before departing a 0-0 game.
The Shuckers broke through against Jacksonville starter RHP Kolton Mahoney (L, 3-7) in the bottom of the sixth to put Supak in line for the win. Mahoney held the Shuckers scoreless on just one hit and a walk through five frames. In the sixth, Blake Allemand started with a pinch-hit single followed by a walk to Corey Ray. After Trent Grisham bunted the runners to second and third, Keston Hiura drew another free pass to load the bases for Erceg. The Shuckers' third baseman pulled a single into right field to score a pair and hand the Shuckers a 2-0 lead.
In the seventh, Clint Coulter demolished a solo home run, his seventh on the season, to provide the 3-0 final score.
RHP Jeff Ames (H, 1) followed Supak with two scoreless, hitless stanzas in the seventh and eighth before giving way to RHP Nate Griep (S, 28). By sealing the win, Griep locked down his Southern League leading 28th save, breaking the Shuckers' franchise record previously held by Matt Ramsey.
LHP Cameron Roegner (0-0, 0.00) will attempt to make a full start on Saturday night after his Double-A debut was washed away by rain following just one inning. He will oppose RHP Nick Neidert (9-6, 3.08) with first pitch coming at 6:35 PM CT. On Super Saturday, the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a Brandon Woodruff bobblehead courtesy of ACE Data Storage.
