The Orem Owlz used stellar pitching to win their regular season finale against the Grand Junction Rockies by a final score of 8-3 in Orem.
Johnny Morell made his first start as a member of the Orem Owlz, allowing just two earned runs and picking up his first win with the team.
Angel Molina provided two go-ahead hits during the afternoon for Orem.
The first of those hits scored Spencer Griffin from second base in the fourth inning to give the Owlz a 1-0 lead. After that, Johnny Morell gave up his only two runs of the game in the fifth, when the Rockies took over with a 2-1 advantage.
That lead was short-lived however, as the Owlz came through in the bottom half of the fifth inning, scoring two runs including a double from Angel Molina that made the score 3-2 Orem.
That lead stuck for the Owlz as they continued to pile on runs.
Manuel Guzman used a double to score both Leonardo Rivas and Julio Garcia to give the Owlz a 5-2 lead in the sixth inning.
Guzman went on to have a career-best 4-4 day at the plate, scoring one run and plating two.
Oufielder Cam Williams also had a career-best day at the plate, where he went 3-4 to pick up his third straight multi-hit game for the Owlz.
Keith Rogalla earned a hold for Orem, keeping the Rockies off the scoreboard for the sixth and seventh innings.
The Owlz plated the last of their runs in the seventh on run-scoring hits from Julio Garcia and Brandon Marsh.
Garcia finished the night with three hits and two runs scored, while Marsh finished with two hits and two runs batted in.
The win caps the Owlz' regular season record at a Pioneer League best mark of 49-26-1, two and a half games greater than the Ogden Raptors, who finished the regular season 47-29.
The Owlz and Raptors will meet at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon for Game One of the Pioneer League South Championship Series.
Game 1 will take place at Lindquist Field in Ogden, while Game 2 and (if necessary) game Game 3 will take place at the Home of the Owlz in Orem.
Game 1 of the Pioneer League South Championship Series came be heard on the Orem Owlz Baseball Network with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to first pitch.
