Aces Handle Business in Albuquerque, Take Two of Three From Isotopes

RENO, Nev. – The Reno Aces (6-15, 43-53) took two of three from the Albuquerque Isotopes (7-13, 38-56), the Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, in this past weekend’s series at Isotopes Park.
The Aces dominated both sides of the ball in Friday’s opener, putting away the Isotopes in a 15-1 beatdown. Spencer Giesting shoved on the mound, turning in his best performance at the Triple-A level after holding the Isotopes to just one run over six clean frames with seven punchouts and two walks. Albert Almora Jr. and Tristin English led the way on offense, which recorded 12 hits on the night. English didn’t miss a beat in his return to the Aces after his first big-league stint with the Diamondbacks, mashing two home runs—his 10th and 11th of the season. Almora Jr. also had a big night at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBI. The veteran outfielder blew the game open with a three-RBI single in the third inning, then added a two-run shot to left field in the seventh—his second homer with Reno. Jesus Valdez played an important role in the win, driving in three runs, including a two-RBI single that kick-started the offense in the second inning.
It was a different story in Game 2, as the Aces were held in check in a 4-2 loss on Saturday. The offense struggled to find its rhythm, managing just a pair of runs. On the mound, Dylan Ray turned in a steady effort, allowing four runs over 6 1/3 innings with one walk and four strikeouts.
Reno rebounded in Sunday’s finale, sealing the series victory with a narrow 5-4 win. Yu-Min Lin earned his first quality start of the season, striking out seven and walking two over six innings while allowing three runs, all of which came in the first inning on three consecutive RBI hits. Lin settled in from there, throwing five scoreless frames to secure his second win of the year. Gavin Logan headlined the offense, getting the scoring started for the Aces with his first career Triple-A home run, a solo shot to center off Andrew Quezada.
Tristin English continued to swing a hot bat throughout the weekend, going 5-for-12 (.417) with three extra-base hits and six RBI. He enters the upcoming series on a seven-game hitting streak, during which he’s slashing .419 (13-for-31) with four doubles, four homers, and 11 RBI. English also leads the Pacific Coast League with a .341 batting average.
Andy Weber stayed red-hot at the dish as well, finishing the series 7-for-13 (.538) with a double, a triple, and two RBI. Since June 20, the infielder has been on a tear, raising his season slash line from .214/.325/.300 to .310/.360/.480 over a 15-game stretch.
The Aces return to Greater Nevada Field on Tuesday, July 22, to open a six-game set against the Oklahoma City Comets, the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. PST.
