We see many former Burlington Royals take the next step on their path to the Majors. The next step for a lot of last year's players is Lexington (Single-A). In Lexington we see seventeen former B-Royals including fan-favorite from 2017, Michael Gigliotti. Gigs, who was injured last season, looks to have a successful 2019 season after not losing his 2018 season due to injury. Gigliotti is the 13th best Royals prospect.
The next step after Lexington is Wilmington Blue Rocks (Advanced-A). There are 10 former Burlington players starting 2019 in Wilmington, including home run hitter, Seuly Matias. Matias last year was a Future Game participant for the World team. In the Future's Game he hit a home run. Matias is the Royals 6th best prospect.
After Wilmington players find their way to Northwest Arkansas to play for the Naturals (Double-A). 14 former Royals will find their spot on the Naturals Opening Day roster, with the big name being Meibrys Viloria. Viloria spent part of last season with the Kansas City Royals. Viloria has the chance of ending up in Kansas City this season, after the season ending injury of Salvador Perez.
The final spot before the major league roster is Omaha Storm Chasers (Triple-A). In Omaha we see ten former B-Royals, that may have the shot of playing in the big leagues this season. Jake Newberry and Jorge Bonifacio both find themselves starting in Omaha, but have the possibility of being in the majors shortly. Both players are currently on the Royals 40-man roster.
As the season starts for former B-Royals, we wish them the best. We begin our season on June 18th at the Bristol Pirates, before our home opener on Monday, June 24th against the Kingsport Mets. Join us for Dollar Monday with $1 tickets, hot dogs, drinks and chips.
