JOHNSON CITY, TN - The Johnson City Cardinals (27-35) defeated the Burlington Royals (21-41) by a score of 10-8 in the series finale Thursday night.
The Cardinals jumped out to the early lead, scoring four runs in the first off Burlington starter Marin Willis. In the second, Bhret Bewley and Rafael Romero had RBIs to cut the deficit to 4-2.
The Royals added two more runs in the fourth on a Chris Hudgins two-run triple to tie the game at 4-4. Hudgins drove in another run in the fifth to give Burlington a 5-4 lead.
Johnson City scored once in the fifth and five times in the seventh to take the lead back. Hudgins and Romero had RBIs in the ninth inning, but the B-Royals fell by a score of 10-8.
Burlington will begin a road series against the Kingsport Mets Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The Burlington Royals are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
