Lovvorn deals in Royals' 2-0 loss

June 27, 2013

Jonathan Davis' two-run double in the eighth broke a scoreless tie and led the Bluefield Blue Jays to a 2-0 win over Burlington on Thursday night in Bluefield, W.Va.

Aside from Davis' double, neither team allowed much in the way of offense. The two teams combined for five total hits on a rain-drenched night at Bowen Field. Three Burlington pitchers, Zach Lovvorn (pictured), Javier Reynoso and Andrew Edwards, surrendered just three hits and struck out six Bluefield hitters. Lovvorn pitched exceptionally well. The Royals' starter only gave up one hit over six innings pitched.

For the Jays, Jairo Labourt and Tom Robson combined for a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts. Robson earned the win for Bluefield, pitching four scoreless innings to finish the game. Reynoso was saddled with the loss, having surrendered the Davis double in the eighth.

With the loss, Burlington has dropped its last three games to fall to 5-3. But, the Royals and Blue Jays will finish their three-game series on Friday night in Bluefield. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. After that, the Royals will return home for a three-game set with the Greeneville Astros, from Friday to Monday.
