Burlington, N.C. - Maikel Garcia was the extra-innings hero for the Royals, connecting on an RBI single to walk off a 9-8 victory over the Twins.
With two outs in the top of the second, Kyle Schmidt put the Twins up 1-0 with an RBI single. Elizabethton added two more in the top of the third with a two-run homer from Matt Wallner that made it a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Royals bats exploded for five runs. Maikel Garcia and Michael Massey each hit RBI singles, Massey scored on a wild pitch and Mikey Filia smacked an two-run double to put Burlington ahead 5-3. Later, the Royals added a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings to go in front 7-3.
Then, in the top of the eight, the Twins came back with a vengeance. Charles Mack hit an RBI double and Will Holland drove a three-run homer off of former Auburn teammate Elliott Anderson to even the score at 7.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Royals answered on an RBI single from Jake Means to retake an 8-7 lead. However, the Anthony Prato forced extras with an RBI single that tied the game at 8.
After a scoreless top of the tenth, Jack Gethings put down a successful sacrifice bunt to move Kevon Jackson from second to third. The next batter was Garcia, who roped a single to left to give Burlington its fourth walk-off win of the season.
Jonah Dipoto earned his first professional win tonight, while Frandy Ramirez got charged with the loss for Elizabethton.
