Johnson City, Tenn. - The Royals couldn't finish a sweep of the Cardinals, dropping the final meeting of a three-game series 4-1.
Maikel Garcia led off the ballgame with a solo home run, his first of the season, that gave the Royals a 1-0 lead.
Burlington was held mostly silent after that, but it didn't matter much through the first five innings. Royals starter Malcolm Van Buren pitched five no-hit innings while striking out eight.
However, the Cardinals broke in front 4-1 on a sixth inning grand slam from Zach Johnson.
Johnson City starter Jake Sommers played a big role in keeping Burlington off the board after the first, finishing eight complete innings while allowing just the one run and only three hits. Righty John Witkowski earned the save with a clean ninth inning. Royals relief arm Wilmer Jimenez took the loss after surrendering the grand slam.
Burlington heads home on Thursday to start a three-game series with the Danville Braves. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30.
