Royals Conclude MLB Draft on Wednesday

Pitching remained the focus for the Kansas City Royals on the third and final day of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Out of the picks made, Kansas City took 17 pitchers, five infielders, four outfielders and four catchers.
The Royals also continued steadfast on choosing college prospects, picking 22 college players on day three against only eight high schoolers. Breaking down the collegiate choices, 16 came from Division I programs, one was a Division II player and five came from the Junior College ranks.
Overall for the 40-round draft, the Royals clearly hoped to improve the pitching depth of the organization, as evidenced by the selection of 24 pitchers. The breakdown of position players was balanced, with seven outfielders, six infielders and four catchers.
The focus on college players was also clear over the three days of the draft, with KC picking 33 collegiate prospects versus 9 high school players.
Since 2007, 49 Royals draft picks in rounds 1-10 have spent time in Burlington, but in general, many draft picks that come to the B-Royals are chosen on day three, in rounds 11-40.
