Burlington Royals have had several dominant pitchers over the last few years. These pitchers are currently making their way up the minor league ladder. Daniel Lynch, Carlos Hernandez and Daniel Tillo are a few to name. Lynch was in Burlington for three games after being the 34th pick in the 2018 MLB Amateur Draft. Lynch pitched 11 innings in Burlington striking out 14 batters and posting an ERA of 1.59 before being promoted to Lexington. While in Lexington he pitched in nine games. He recorded a 5-1 record with a 1.58 ERA, striking out 47 batters in 40 innings pitched, and had a WHIP of 1.025.
Carlos Hernandez a right-handed pitcher from Venezuela was with Burlington for the 2017 season. He had 62 strikeouts in 62 and a 1/3 innings. In 2018, Hernandez spent the season in Lexington with eye popping numbers. He was 6-5 with a 3.29 ERA. Striking out 82 batters in under 80 innings pitched. Hernandez really kept the hitters off the bases with a WHIP under 1.2.
Daniel Tillo was a 3rd round draft pick in 2017. He started 2017 in the Arizona Instructional League before moving to Burlington. The left-handed pitcher was 3-2 with a 3.46 record in Burlington. He had a K/BB (Strikeout to Walk Ratio) above 4 during the 2017 season. In 2018, Tillo started in Single-A with the Lexington Legends before getting promoted to High-A with the Wilmington Blue Rocks in May. Though Tillo struggled in Wilmington, there are some bright spots. He only gave up three home runs in 93 innings pitched and in his first 15 starts of the season he was 3-2 with a 3.73 ERA.
We look forward to following our alum on their way towards the majors.
