Two former Burlington Royals have been voted into the South Atlantic League All-Star Game. Outfielder Seuly Matias ('17) and catcher Sebastian Rivero ('17) will both be representing the South Division.
Matias, the Kansas City Royals third-ranked prospect, spent all of 2017 in Burlington and led the team with eight home runs and 31 RBIs. Matias has continued to show prodigious power in 2018 with the Lexington Legends, already slugging 18 home runs in 44 games, which leads all of minor league baseball.
Scouts say Matias has the highest ceiling of any prospect in the organization, and the 19-year-old from the Dominican Republic is turning heads in the Kansas City organization. He appears to be on the fast track towards the big leagues.
Rivero also spent all of 2017 with the B-Royals and put together a solid season as the team's starting catcher. Also a 19-year-old, Rivero has stepped his game up for Lexington in 2018, with 12 extra-base hits in 135 at-bats. Rivero has an OPS over .700 and has provided solid defense for the Legends all season.
The South Atlantic League All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday, June 19 at First National Bank Field in Greensboro, NC. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
The Burlington Royals are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
The Burlington Royals' season will begin with an exhibition game on Father's Day - Sunday, June 17th. Special Father's Day activities and promotions to be announced soon. Single-game tickets are on sale now.
