BURLINGTON, NC - A stellar start from Yerelmy Garcia led the Burlington Royals (10-25) to a 5-0 win over the Elizabethton Twins (20-12) Thursday night. Garcia had a no-hitter going through six innings, and allowed just one hit over seven scoreless frames.
The Royals got the offense going early, scoring single runs in each of the first two innings. The run in the first came on an Eric Cole RBI groundout, scoring Jose Marquez. In the second, Juan Carlos Negret hit his team-leading sixth home run to make it 2-0.
Neither team scored again until the eighth, when Burlington scored three more times. Cole drove in his second and third runs of the game with a double, and then scored on a Rhett Aplin sacrifice fly to make it 5-0.
After the seven scoreless from Garcia, Kelvin Gonzalez pitched the final two innings to pick up the save and secure the Royals' third shutout of the year.
The Royals will next host the Kingsport Mets for a three-game series at Burlington Athletic Stadium. First pitch Friday night is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
The Burlington Royals are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
