DUNEDIN, Fla. (June 13, 2018) - Stone Crabs starting pitcher Blake Bivens struck out a season-high eight over six strong innings to help Charlotte beat the Dunedin Blue Jays 6-5 Wednesday night at Dunedin Stadium.
Bivens (3-0) allowed only one run on three hits in his first start since witnessing the birth of his child.
The Stone Crabs (30-32) trailed 1-0 in the top of the fourth before Robbie Tenerowicz drew a leadoff walk against Blue Jays (27-33) rehabber Marcus Stroman (0-1). Jesús Sánchez followed by belting a two-run homer to right to give Charlotte a 2-1 lead.
Still up one in the top of the fifth, Kevin Kiermaier tripled to the wall in left before Adeiny Hechavarría drove him home with a single to right.
The Stone Crabs added singular runs in the final three innings to open up a 6-1 lead before Dunedin made it interesting in the ninth.
The Blue Jays rallied for four runs on six hits before Charlotte reliever Alexis Tapia got Rodrigo Orozco to ground out to end the game with the tying run at third. It was Tapia's first career save.
