Denard Span to start again tonight in Hagerstown

April 18, 2014

HAGERSTOWN M.D. - Washington Nationals center fielder Denard Span will be making his second consecutive rehab start tonight for the Hagerstown Suns (10-4) when they host the Lakewood BlueClaws (4-9) this evening in the second game of a three game series at 6:35pm at Municipal Stadium. Span is working his way back from a concussion and is eligible to come off the disabled list on Saturday.

In Thursday night's series opener Span collected one hit in two official at-bats, while also walking twice, scoring three runs and driving in one. Span played five innings before being replaced in center field by Wilman Rodriguez. Span is hitting .222 (8-36) in 10 games with the Nationals this season. He is in his seventh season in the majors and his second with the Nationals after spending his first five major league seasons with the Minnesota Twins. Span has a career .282 average in 752 career big league games.

The first 500 fans 21 and older coming to Municipal Stadium tonight, and for the series finale on Saturday evening, will receive a specialty Suns mug presented by Barefoot Bernie's, Cancun Cantina, and Budweiser. The mug will entitle fans to beer discounts at both Barefoot Bernie's and Cancun Cantina on game nights, as well as at Municipal Stadium. Gates open to the general public tonight at 5:30pm, and 4:00pm on Saturday.
