Giolito named SAL Pitcher of the Week again

July 28, 2014

HAGERSTOWN M.D. - The South Atlantic League announced today that Suns RHP Lucas Giolito was named the league's Pitcher of the Week for the week spanning from July 21 - 27. It is the second time this season Giolito has been selected as the league's Pitcher of the Week.

Giolito made one start during the week, which was on Friday July 25 at home against Kannapolis. In that outing he tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just one infield hit while striking out seven and not walking a batter to earn the win. The one hit he allowed was to the first hitter of the game, but he then proceeded to retire 18 in a row. Giolito has won each of his last four decisions.

Giolito is in his first season with the Suns, and in his third season as a professional after getting drafted by the Nationals with their first round pick (#16 overall) in the 2012 draft out of Harvard-Westlake (CA) High School. This season Giolito is 6-2 with a 2.34 ERA in 16 starts. He has struck out 88 hitters in 77.0 innings worked, and has held opponents to a .186 batting average.

Giolito was a member of the U.S. roster for the 16th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, which was played earlier this month at Target Field in Minneapolis. In the most recent list put out by MLB.com of the Nationals top 20 prospects Giolito was ranked #1.
