Although Jupiter scored the tying run in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Hammerheads were unable to hold off a 10th inning surge by Palm Beach in a 4-2 loss.
Five of the six total runs in Friday's game were scored in the final 4 innings.
Down 2-0 through seven innings, the Hammerheads bit at the deficit when Joe Dunand hit a sacrifice fly to cut the Palm Beach lead to 2-1. It was his 40th RBI of the season which ranks second in the Florida State League.
The Hammerheads held the Cardinals scoreless in the top of the 9th with the help of some exciting defensive plays and the lights out pitching from Jorgan Cavanerio.
Heading into ninth down just a single run, Jupiter's "Rally Time" tradition worked once again. Justin Twine hit a one-out triple and was just 90 feet from scoring. Twine was then brought in on a Sacrifice fly from Aaron Knapp which tied to score and sent the game to extra innings.
Cardinals' Ryan McCarvel hit a two run homer on the second pitch he saw from all-star closer Lukas Schiraldi in the 10th. It was just the second earned run allowed by Schiraldi who leads the Florida State League with nine saves.
The Hammerheads couldn't get anything started in the bottom of the 10th and went three-up, three-down.
This is just the first game of the series as the Hammerheads look to bounce back tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. from Rodger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
