The Hammerheads ended their chances at a perfect second half with an 11-7 loss to the Fort Myers Miracle on Friday night.
All-Star Jordan Holloway had an unusually tough time on the mound, pitching just 1.1 innings with four hits, three walks and six earned runs.
With Ft. Myers up 6-0 in the 2nd, a win seemed unlikely, but the Hammerheads got back in it over the next three innings.
After a tough top of the inning, James Nelson kicked it off with a 2-run RBI double to score Jerar Encarnacion and Angel Reyes in the bottom of the second.
In the third, Encarnacion hit his second straight homerun for the Hammerheads, this time launching a 2-run bomb to left center field.
After Holloway left in the second, Colton Hock came in for 3.2 innings, allowing three hits, the two runs in the 4th inning, walking no one and striking out three.
Even though Fort Myers came back with those two runs in the top of the 4th, once again the Hammerheads responded. An RBI double from Jhonny Santos, RBI double from Micah Brown and sac fly from Víctor Víctor Mesa made it a 7-8 game.
Jupiter blew a big opportunity to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth. With a double from Encarnacion, a single from Reyes and a fielder's choice, the bases were loaded with no one out. A big K for the Miracle and double play closed the inning, keeping the game 8-7 in favor of Fort Myers.
Some new faces in Jupiter finished the game for the Hammerheads. Alex Vesia made his first appearance as a Hammerhead, pitching 2.2 innings after Hock. The Miracle earned two runs off the lefty in the 8th, giving them a 10-7 lead going into the ninth.
New Hammerhead C.J. Carter pitched 1.1 innings to finish the game. In his first showing in Jupiter, he finished with one hit, one unearned run, zero walks and one strikeout.
Jupiter will play game three against Fort Myers tomorrow at 5:30pm at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. For tickets visit https://www.milb.com/jupiter/tickets/.
