In Monday night's matchup the Hammerheads were defeated by the Tarpons 4-3 in a game that proved nine innings isn't always enough.
Jupiter has only scored five runs in their last six games, being shut out twice. Monday's 10 hit and three run outing was a step in the right direction for the Hammerheads who have won two of their last ten games and are currently on a seven game losing streak.
Justin Twine led the charge against Tampa as he recorded a hit in all four of his at bats.
The Hammerheads had chances to come out victorious after tying the game 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning with the help of an error by David Metzgar which sent both Luis Pintor and Aaron Knapp home.
After Jupiter stranded three runners on base to end a scoreless eighth inning, the Hammerheads tried repeating themselves as they left two runners on base in the bottom of the scoreless ninth inning.
Tampa started extra innings quick as they loaded the bases with only one out. Brandon Wagner was able to take the lead as he crossed home on a Rashad Crawford RBI ground out making the score 4-3 Tampa.
In the bottom of the tenth Jupiter showed a great deal of resilience as they attempted to mount the comeback but were unable to as Riley Mahan went out swinging with three runners on base.
Josh Roeder started the game for the Hammerheads as he went for six 1/3 innings allowing eight hits and three earned runs, which all came in the fourth, including a two run homer.
Roeder was replaced by Travis Nuebeck who rang up three Tampa batters in one 2/3 innings pitched. Chad Smith entered the game in the ninth inning allowing only one hit in two innings pitched, this was the closers first loss of the year as he is now 3-1.
The Hammerheads look to end their losing streak in Tuesday's matchup against the Tarpons, the contest will be played at Roger Dean Stadium with a starting time of 6:30 PM. Tickets and more information can be found at Rogerdeanchevroletstadium.com/tickets-events.
