Edward Cabrera could make this list several times, but by far his most electrifying performance was his 13-K start on May 10th. The Marlins #7 prospect pitched 6.2 innings without a walk or run. Bradenton only recorded two hits off Cabrera, who was rightfully promoted to Jacksonville last month.
Not only did Cabrera stun on the mound, but his performance was crucial in breaking the Hammerheads 11-game losing streak. Coming off three straight sweeps and eleven straight losses, the 1-0 win over Bradenton was huge for the Hammerheads.
After a mid-season slump, Will Stewart once again flirted with a no-hitter, this time one-upping himself and taking the bid to the final out.
In a simultaneously incredible and heartbreaking start, Stewart pitched 5 1/3 perfect innings and 8 2/3 hitless innings, going one inning further than his first near-miss in April. In his longest start this year by a full inning, the Alabama native threw a career-high 108 pitches with 68 strikes and a season-high-tying eight strikeouts on his way to earning a clear win for the night.
Stewart left the mound after a Cardinal ended the no-hit bid with a two-out double in the 9th, which would be batted in under the reliever to add one run to Stewarts' final line: 8.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 B, 8 K, 27 BF.
Will Stewart wasn't the only Alabama native to go for a no-hitter. In his first season coming back from TJ, Braxton Garrett made his own no-hit bid on June 25th.
That night on the mound, the lefty dealt his best-career start. The 2016 1st round pick pitched seven full innings with just one narrow hit and no runs. The Marlins #8 Prospect struck-out a career-high eleven batters and only walked one in his sensational start.
The Jupiter Hammerheads roster was officially loaded when the first round draft picks from 2016-2019 were all playing in Jupiter at once.
Lefty starters Braxton Garrett ('16) and Trevor Rogers ('17) had been on the Hammerheads roster all season. The first rounders were steady, solid starters for the Hammerheads all year. Before being promoted to Jacksonville, Rogers had a 2.53 ERA and 122 K over 110.1 innings pitched with the Hammerheads. Garrett is 6-5 with a 3.24 ERA and 114 K over 100 innings pitched for Jupiter.
In July, the Hammerheads added 2019 first round pick (4th overall) JJ Bleday. The outfielder has made an impression in Jupiter, particularly heating up in August with .412 avg, 2 HR, .500 OBP and 1.147 OPS over his last three games. Shortly after Bleday's assignment, 2018 first round pick Connor Scott came up from low-A Clinton. In his first six games, Scott batted 0.444 with a 1.361 OPS.
In his second start with the Marlins organization, Will Stewart proved himself as a prospect-to-watch by throwing 7.2 innings without a hit. Acquired in the 2019 trade with Philadelphia, Stewart faced and retired 21 batters over the first seven innings, 19-straight after a walk in the second that was quickly handled with a double play.
A hard hit double in the eighth broke up the no-hit bid, but Stewart left the mound happy with his 7-K, scoreless, 7.2 inning start.
The Hammerheads clean-up batter for most of the season has had some nice homers, but by far the most impressive was a 506ft bomb that soared down center field and out of the Dean.
The Hammerheads won that August 7th game against the Palm Beach Cardinals 6-0.
After all was said and done four Hammerheads were nominated as Florida State League All-Stars: RHP Edward Cabrera, LHP Trevor Rogers, RHP Jordan Holloway and SS Jose Devers. The four Hammerheads All-Stars didn't have to go far for the 2019 Florida State League All-Star Game, which was held at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
At the time of nomination, Cabrera had thrown seven starts, four of which were shutouts. Over those 35.2 innings, the Marlins #7 prospect struck out 46 and allowed just 11 runs for a 2.79 ERA.
Holloway was in the middle of a hotstreak when he was nominated, also throwing four shutout starts in seven games with a 1.50 ERA.
Jose Devers was the youngest 2019 Florida State League All-Star. Although he's spent most of the season on the IL, when he was nominated he had a 0.325 average and a 0.385 OBP.
2017 first round pick Trevor Rogers was added to the roster with a 3.02 ERA and 65 K over 62.2 innings.
Holloway threw a perfect inning for the South and Rogers tossed a scoreless inning with one walk and two strikeouts.
In one of many long night's this season, the Hammerheads took a 1-1 game against the Florida Fire Frogs on May 11th into extras. Jordan Holloway threw one of his gems to start the game, and the Hammerheads carried a 1-0 lead into the eighth, but Florida tied it up. Then, both teams put a second run up in the tenth.
Marlins #14 prospect Victor Victor Mesa provided the extra-inning heroics for the Hammerheads. After a walk and sac bunt, placed runner Micah Brown was on third with one out. With a single line drive, Mesa scored Brown for the walk-off win, 3-2 Hammerheads.
Walk-off wins are fun, but walk-off wins in extras are even better. In their third game of the second half, the Hammerheads were looking to maintain their perfect record, but it wasn't an easy game against the Miracle.
The game was 5-3 going into the last inning, and ninth inning heroics kept the game alive for the Hammerheads. With two walks, three wild pitches, a single from Jhonny Santos , an RBI single from Victor Victor Mesa and an RBI forceout off the bat of Bryson Brigman, the Hammerheads tied the game up, 5-5.
In extra innings, quick RBIs from the Miracle and then Hammerheads kept the game tied at 7-all. Fort Myers scored another run in the top of the 11th, but Jupiter one-upped them with two runs. Gunnar Schubert outran Miracle fielders for a close RBI-single and Fortes closed the game with an RBI sac fly to keep the Hammerheads undefeated.
RHP Jordan Holloway was at the top of his game in May. From May 5th to May 25th the Colorado native threw 20.1 innings without a run. Holloway finished the month of May with a 0.43 ERA and just one run over 21 innings pitched for the month.
RHP Edward Cabrera has his own 28-inning run from April 5th to May 17th. After allowing two runs in the his first start with Jupiter, he got through four scoreless starts before giving up three runs in the 6th inning on the 17th.
