Jupiter finished the first half of the 2018 Florida State League season with a shutout over Florida, which marked its Florida State League high 41st win of the season Wednesday night.
Jordan Yamamoto was dominant for the Hammerheads. Yamamoto pitched seven innings, allowing only two hits and setting a Hammerheads franchise record with 13 strikeouts. He did not allow his first hit until the 5th inning.
More impressive was his control. He threw a total of 89 pitches with 64 of them being strikes.
Over his last three starts, the Hawaiian native has allowed just two runs in 16 innings while striking out 22 and walking just three.
In his five starts this season, the Hammerheads are 4-1.
Parker Bugg came in for relief in the eighth inning and added to the fantastic pitching night for Jupiter. The Louisville, Kentucky native pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed just one hit while striking out three. Between Bugg and Yamamoto, the duo recorded 15 strike outs and just three hits for Jupiter through the first eight innings.
Scott Squier earned his first save of the season as a Hammerhead after recording the final out of the night.
Offensively, Jupiter was led by first baseman John Silviano. The 23-year-old went three for four and hit his first triple of the season in the sixth inning. Later in the inning, James Nelson hit a sacrifice fly to center which scored Silviano who was the last Hammerhead to cross the plate on Wednesday night.
Anfernee Seymour's fifth inning single to left-center scored Aaron Knapp, the first run of the night for Jupiter.
Despite the Florida State League high 41 wins, Jupiter did not clinch a spot in the playoffs. The Hammerheads look to start the second half strong on Thursday when they travel to Tampa with the hopes of winning the second half and clinching a spot in the 2018 Florida State League playoffs.
