Mahoning Valley Scrappers Announce Coaching Staff for the 2024 Season

NILES, OH – Joining Scrappers Manager, Quinton McCracken, for the 2024 season are former Major League relief pitcher, Ron Mahay, former MLB catcher, Mike DiFelice, along with Cleveland Guardians 2017 second round pick, outfielder Quentin Holmes.

Ron Mahay made his Major League debut in 1997 with the Boston Red Sox and spent two years with them, followed by time with the Oakland Athletics (1999-2000), Florida Marlins (2000), Chicago Cubs (2001-2002), Texas Rangers (2003-2007), Atlanta Braves (2007), Kansas City Royals (2008-2009), and the Minnesota Twins (2009-2010). Throughout his 14 year MLB career, Mahay appeared in 514 games and pitched 568 innings with a win-loss record of 27-12 and an ERA of 3.83. He recorded 470 strikeouts while allowing 266 walks. Mahay will be joining the Scrappers as their pitching coach for the 2024 season. Mahay spent time coaching in Mahoning Valley during the 2021 and 2022 Scrappers seasons.

Mike DiFelice made his Major League debut in 1996 with the St. Louis Cardinals and spent his first two years with them, followed by time with the Tampa Bay Rays (1998-2001), Arizona Diamondbacks (2001), St. Louis Cardinals (2002), Kansas City Royals (2003), Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs (2004), New York Mets (2005-2007), and the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008. DiFelice played in 550 career games, had 1,558 MLB at-bats, and had a career .236 batting average, with 368 hits and 167 RBI’s. DiFelice was a teammate of Scrappers manager Quinten McCracken in 1998. DiFelice will be joining the Scrappers for the 2024 season as their hitting coach.

Quentin Holmes was drafted as an outfielder 64th overall (2nd round) to the Cleveland Guardians in the 2017 MLB draft, and he spent 2017-2022 in the Guardians organization. In the MiLB, he recorded 161 hits, 63 RBI’s, 27 doubles, and 50 stolen bases. Holmes will serve as an assistant coach to round out the Scrappers staff.

The 2024 Scrappers season is presented by Foxconn. The Mahoning Valley Scrappers are one of six founding member teams in the MLB Draft League, joining the Frederick Keys, State College Spikes, Trenton Thunder, West Virginia Black Bears and Williamsport Crosscutters.
