Castro leads way in GCL Tigers West's no-no

Anthony Castro had allowed 10 runs in his previous two starts. He more than reversed that trend Monday, he helped make history in the process.

The 21-year-old right-hander struck out six and allowed one walk over five innings as the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Tigers West no-hit the Yankees West for a 4-0 victory in their doubleheader opener. Righty Malvin Martinez fanned three and walked one in the final two frames.

Castro (3-3) retired the side in order in the first inning before walking Ryan Krill to start the second. He retired the next seven batters before shortstop Chad Sedio's fourth-inning throwing error allowed Nelson Gomez to reach base. Castro struck out Krill to get out of the jam.

In the fifth, the Venezuela native struck out Joseph Burton, but he got aboard on a wild pitch. Pablo Oliveras reached on Sedio's fielding error, but Castro induced a double-play groundout from Griffin Garabito to finish his night.

Martinez walked Leobaldo Cabrera to start the sixth, but was flawless after that. He induced a double-play ball to end the sixth.

Castro had allowed 10 runs on 21 hits and a walk in his previous two starts spanning 8 2/3 innings. Before that, the 6-foot, 174-pound hurler delivered four straight starts in which he didn't allow more than two runs, going 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA over 20 frames.

Sedio gave the Tigers the lead with a first-inning double and Andres Sthormes cracked a two-run homer in the sixth.

Yankees starter Alexander Rosario (0-3) allowed two runs -- one earned -- on six hits over five innings.
