Palm Beach Cardinals Look to Rock Opening Weekend

April 9 Home Opener is Also First Slammin' Saturdays Game
March 31, 2011
JUPITER, Fla - While the Palm Beach Cardinals, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, take part in Opening Day on the road at the St. Lucie Mets, the team's home opener is sure to be one of the most unique events around the league in 2011.

That's because the first Cardinals' home game, scheduled for 6:35 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, against the St. Lucie Mets, is also the first Slammin' Saturdays game ever at Roger Dean Stadium.

Slammin' Saturdays nights, newly introduced in 2011, are five fun nights throughout the FSL season at Roger Dean Stadium featuring rock concerts that pay tribute to some of the greatest bands of all time, a spectacular post-game firework show and of course an exciting game of baseball. These premier nights are expected to be some of the highest attended games throughout the summer at the 'Dean' and include some of Florida's top tribute bands playing music from the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Bon Jovi and more.

Saturday's Palm Beach Cardinals home opener features Beatles tribute band Let It Be, performing live following the final out at Roger Dean Stadium. Let It Be is known to play hits such as "A Hard Days Night," "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and more while entertaining fans with multiple costume changes and even using some of the same instruments used by the Beatles themselves. A firework display will follow the band's performance.

While much of the day's excitement will be surrounding the post-game festivities, the Palm Beach Cardinals will be focusing on their third game of the new season - and their 2011 home opener at Roger Dean Stadium. Palm Beach is looking to build on a third place finish in the Florida State League South division last season and a 75-65 overall record. Luis Aguayo will return for his second season as Cardinals' skipper after sending eight players to the Florida State League All-Star game in 2010. Along with returning hitting coach Jeff Albert, former MLB-great Dennis Martinez will round out the staff as the new pitching coach. Martinez, who threw baseball's 13th perfect game in 1991 with the Montreal Expos, also served as the pitching coach in Palm Beach in 2008 and 2009.

Opening Weekend at Roger Dean Stadium is expected to be an exciting and unique experience for all involved, from the players and fans soaking in the allure of Opening Day to music lovers partying to the classic hits of the Beatles.
