Palm Beach's lone run came in the ninth inning, but it wasn't enough as the visiting St. Lucie Mets came out on top 6-1.
Evan Kruczynski (4-3) had a solid outing and kept his composure early. In the first inning, he kept St. Lucie (38-57) off the board despite a one-out double, and in the second stranded a runner on third with one out.
However, in the fourth, the Mets would get on the board with two runs. That's all the southpaw for Palm Beach (52-41) would allow in six innings as he struck out four and did not allow a walk.
In the bottom half of the fourth, Palm Beach got the inning started with two singles from Kramer Robertson and Dylan Carlson, however the Cardinals were unable to capitalize.
St. Lucie extended its lead to six runs after a four-run eighth inning that included four straight base hits to open the frame.
Thomas St. Clair pitched the final two innings for Palm Beach and kept St. Lucie off the scoreboard.
In the bottom of the ninth, Shane Billings' two-out RBI single kept the Beach Birds from being shut out.
José Godoy, Kramer Robertson, and Shane Billings all had two hits for Palm Beach.
The teams will play the rubber match of the three-game series on Saturday. It'll be Christmas in July at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium complete with snow ball fights, pictures with Santa, candy canes, and much, much more.
