Grandpa Clyde's Snipe Hunt
As the story goes, Grandpa Clyde went deep into the Ozark woods one summer night in search of the legendary, yet elusive Snipe. Said to be just a mythical animal, Grandpa Clyde was mocked and ridiculed throughout town as his search for the seemingly magical snipe stretched from days into weeks. His beard growing longer and his patience growing shorter, Grandpa Clyde had all but given up hope with each passing day without so much as a clue of the animal’s whereabouts.
With no sense of how deep into the hunt he was, in the dead of night, he finally caught a glimpse of his target quietly taking a drink on the banks of the Osage River. Approaching slowly, Grandpa Clyde, swift and nimble, slipped his bindle over its head and captured The Snipe. The animal squirming, Grandpa’s heart pounding, he slowly opened the bag only to see The Snipe had vanished as quickly as it appeared. Defeated and confused, Grandpa Clyde had no choice but to return to town empty handed, hoping his story would be enough to prove he caught the animal thought to be only a myth.
Years later, Grandpa Clyde still swears he captured the animal if only for just a moment, but has no proof of doing the impossible; only the memory of his most legendary hunt.
