Cardinals win series in Frisco with 8-4 victory

FRISCO, Tx. -- The Springfield Cardinals (28-31, 58-71) won their second straight series with an 8-4 victory against the Frisco RoughRiders (28-30, 61-66) on Thursday night.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED:
-The Cardinals jumped ahead in the top of the first when C Brian O'Keefe delivered a two-out RBI single, scoring SS Kramer Robertson from second and providing a 1-0 lead.

-Frisco evened it in the bottom of the third, as RF Eliezer Álvarez plated 3B Ryan Dorow from third with an RBI fielder's choice, squaring the score at 1-1.

-The Cardinals blew the game open with a five-run rally in the top of the fifth. After DH Zach Kirtley was hit by a pitch, he moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a go-ahead RBI single from SS Rayder Ascanio. 1B Juan Yepez then reached on an error, followed by a walk from 2B Kramer Robertson to load the bases. LF Yariel Gonzalez worked a bases-loaded walk, followed by a run-scoring wild pitch to make it 4-1. One out later, consecutive RBI singles from O'Keefe and CF Conner Capel capped the five-run charge and made it 6-1.

-The RoughRiders edged closer in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run from C Tony Sanchez and an RBI fielder's choice by 3B Ryan Dorow, slicing the deficit to 6-3.

-Yepez padded the lead with a two-run home run in the top of the ninth, stretching it to 8-3.

-Profar got one run back for Frisco with a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth, but RHP Bryan Dobzanski retired the next three batters in a row to close the 8-4 win for Springfield.

NOTABLES:
-1B Juan Yepez went 2x4 with his first-career Double-A home run. He finished the series in Frisco going 3x8 with a homer, a double and four RBIs through the last two games.

-C Brian O'Keefe went 3x5 with a pair of RBI singles, increasing his season RBI total to 36.

-CF Conner Capel went 2x4 with an RBI single.

-SS Rayder Ascanio went 1x3 with an RBI single and two runs, and has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games.
