SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- John Nogowski's return to the Cardinals lineup was met with a spark.

The consistent hitting first baseman delivered a pair of big early singles and finished with three hits and three RBIs Thursday in a 6-3 Cardinals win over the Travelers in front of 4,225 fans at Hammons Field.

After a Blake Drake single and a pair of walks loaded the bases in the first, Nogowski pushed home the game's first two runs with a liner into left. That hit was followed a batter later with Chris Chinea's 14th homer of the season as he deposited a three-run shot onto the berm in left, putting Springfield ahead 5-0.

Nogowski added a third RBI and pushed the difference to 6-0 when he singled Evan Mendoza home in the fourth.

SEGA GENESIS

Génesis Cabrera didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning and mostly cruised through his fifth start as a Springfield Cardinal.

Cabrera held the Travelers off the scoreboard until the sixth, when a pair of runs crossed on a tough two-out bloop single into shallow left that fell between three Cardinals.

In all, Cabrera allowed just the two runs on four hits and a walk over 6.0 innings, striking out four and earning his first Cardinals win.

The Travelers added their third run in the seventh off Roel Ramirez.

Seth Elledge struck out three over the final 2.0 innings, earning his fourth save of the season.
