PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (May 12, 2017) - The Charlotte Stone Crabs scored a season-high 11 runs to beat the Fort Myers Miracle 11-2 Friday night at Charlotte Sports Park.
Eight different Stone Crabs (18-17) hitters reached base and four collected multiple hits in the win.
Friday's win puts Charlotte above five-hundred for the first time all season. They also own second place in the Southern Division for the first time in 2017.
With the game scoreless in the bottom of the first, Miracle (16-20) starter Chris Anderson (0-1) walked Ryan Brett and Brandon Lowe with nobody out. Brett then scored on a pair of wild pitches to give Charlotte a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Brett Sullivan tripled to the wall in right center to score Lowe and make it 2-0. Ryan Boldt followed with a single to right to bring in Sullivan and extend the lead to 3-0. The next batter was Dalton Kelly , who doubled down the left field line to make it 4-0 Stone Crabs after one.
With Charlotte still up by four in the third, Sullivan singled to right with one out. After Boldt walked, Kelly singled to right to load the bases. Anderson then banked a pitch off the glove of catcher Brian Navaretto that went the backstop, allowing Sullivan to score and make it 5-0. After a strikeout, Jake Fraley pulled a single into right to plate two and make it 7-0 Charlotte.
Fort Myers got a run back in the top of the fourth on a Chris Paul sacrifice fly which made the count 7-1.
Leading by six in the bottom of the fourth, Brett singled on ground ball to shortstop before Lowe walked. With two men on and no one out, Jake Cronenworth singled to right to score Brett and make it 8-1. The next batter was Sullivan, who drove another triple to the wall in right center to make the score 10-1. Boldt then followed with a single to bring in Sullivan and extend the lead to 11-1.
Stone Crabs starting pitcher Génesis Cabrera (3-3) allowed only one hit over six innings while striking out four to earn the win. He has earned a 1.29 ERA over his last six starts.
Noel Rodriguez, Roel Ramirez and Joe Serrapica combined to allow one run over three innings out of the Charlotte bullpen to seal the victory.
The Stone Crabs go for the sweep of the Miracle Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. Blake Bivens (2-3, 4.24) makes the start for Charlotte against Dereck Rodríguez (2-2, 2.31) of Fort Myers. Coverage begins at 5:50 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
